Newman Council 2025-2026

President: Shane McKevitt, ‘27

Major: Professional Writing
What I like about the Saint Christopher Catholic Newman Center and being involved there: "I like the strong community based on faith in Christ and participation in the life of the Church on campus. Being a member of the Newman Council allows me to help grow the community I love and ensure the Center is a place for all students to experience the light of the Gospel on campus."
My advice for new students: "I recommend to keep up with your coursework and put school first. Clubs, extracurriculars, friend groups, and campus events are all vital to the college experience, but your priority should always be to make sure assignments are going to be completed well and submitted on time."

Vice President: Nathan Orient '28 Hometown: Sinking Spring, PA Major: Biology What I like about the Saint Christopher Catholic Newman Center and being involved there: "My favorite aspect of the Newman center is all of the development opportunities available. There are so many ways you can read, listen, and be instructed to grow in your faith." My advice for new students: "Set yourself up for success. Make sure to surround yourself with people who want the best for you and are willing to work to help you. Be willing as well to help them be the best. Study hard, the work will all be worth it at the end."

Secretary: Julia Sweeney, '26 Hometown: Morgantown, PA Major: Art History major and Studio Art and Chemistry minor What I like about the Saint Christopher Catholic Newman Center and being involved there: I felt a bit overwhelmed as a new college student. The SCCNC provided me and other Catholic students with a space to connect with their peers on campus. During my time at the Newman Center, I have made several close friends who will stay with me for years, and I have been able to further grow my faith and my relationship with God through the Center's faith-based activities and events. Advice for new students: "Join clubs that you're interested in! You'll meet people and make friends by engaging in community activities with people who have the same interests as you do”.

What I like about the Saint Christopher Catholic Newman Center and being involved there: The SCCNC has provided me a second family. Coming to college is hard because you are so far away from home and your family, but when you enter the SCCNC it becomes home. I have met all my best friends here and just stepping through the doors feels like I am home.  Advice for new students: Get Involved! Yes, Mass on Sunday is an obligation, but don't stop there. Come to dinner, come to Adoration, come to our events! The move you get involved, the more people you’ll meet. It will become easier to call this place home. Build your relationships not only with God, but with the faith-filled community around you.
